Monument to Ampère |
This monument by the architect Dubuisson and the sculptor Textor (1888) celebrates André Marie Ampère (1775-1836), native of Lyon, and illustrious physician who discovered electrodybamics. A museunm is housed in his birthplace at Poleymieux near to Lyon. This Gallo-Roman district boasts a wealth of ancient remains. The famous "Circus games" mosaic on display at the Museum of Gallo-roman civilisation was found nearby in the rue Jarente in 1806. |
